Carla is originally from Rio de Janeiro, but after living in NYC/NJ for almost seven years, and being in DC for almost six years, it’s hard to even think that at some point that she lived in year-round warm weather, in the country of samba.

She met Karl out at a dive karaoke bar near her place, in Arlington, VA.  He came to talk to her after a common friend broke the ice, and when he said his name, the first thing she thought was “Ha, Carla & Karl?  That’s never going to work.”

They moved in together at the end of August 09, after he met her parents and they loved him.

In December, he went with her to Rio to meet her whole family and see a little bit of where she’s from.  While they were sitting by the steps of this statue he told her how the night before, which had been their one year anniversary, he had a talk with her dad, asking permission to marry her.  Permission was granted.  In February, she’s off to Seattle to meet his family and make the engagement official.

Karl will be starting a new government job at the end of the year, which will send him all over the world.  So they decided that November 27th will be the perfect date — enough time to plan a wedding but not too long that she won’t be able to tag along in his adventures.

She always wanted a wedding at the beach, with the sunset, while she walks barefoot down the aisle.  Karl thinks beach weddings are for celebrities.  So now Carla’s parents are trying to find the perfect venue in Rio.  For all the DC folks it’ll be a destination wedding, for her, it’ll be home.

She’s never been one to fantasize about the perfect wedding (barefoot at the beach dreams aside), or had dreams of having her own princess-like day.  But now that it is her turn to walk down the aisle, she can’t help but let a girlish giggle out, and is so excited to start planning!

Her biggest fear?  That no one in the US will bother traveling to her wedding…  But she hopes that seeing them tie the knot will be the perfect excuse for a Rio trip!

She usually writes here, but since she’s a bit of an aspiring runner, she has her running-related posts here.
