Just like Katelin, our LA Bloggette, I also went on the do-it-yourself road when it came to my save the dates.
At first, I was convinced I wanted fridge magnets, but was then shocked by the sticker price — over $100 for 50 magnets? That was ridiculous. It was a cute concept, and I loved the magnets I created online, but couldn’t get myself to press the “buy” button.
So I started looking around for options, and found this website: http://www.overnightprints.com — it has nothing to do with weddings, but it turned out to be perfect — and incredibly cheap. (And no, I’m not affiliated with them.)
At first, I wasn’t convinced, so I ordered 50 of them. It came out to less than twenty bucks, and I figured I could afford to lose that $20 if I didn’t like them.
I designed my graphics old-school. I’m embarrassed to admit that in lieu of photoshop I used Paint. Really. I had tons of pictures from our trip to Rio, so I collected the best of them for the postcard. For the font, I actually used the website’s “advanced designer” features, since Paint was not giving me what I wanted.
The more I thought about having a postcard as a Save the Date the more I realized how really perfect it is. For most people coming, this will be a destination wedding. Why not send a postcard with all the sights they will get to see and visit on their trip?
A week later, I got them on the mail, and was giddy with excitement opening the envelope: they came out PERFECT. The quality is spectacular (I got the glossy ones), the colors pop out of the card. And for some odd reason, I got 65 of them, instead of only 50 (score!).
And last week those who are coming to the wedding got greeted with this baby in their mailbox (last names and wedding website scratched for this post due to privacy — the card itself has the whole info, of course):
(Please excuse the glare from the flash — and what looks like uneven outside borders, is not — the postcard has border.)
I definitely recommend the site I used. They cater to marketing postcards, so it’s cheap with awesome quality.
Have you also used of a non-wedding related service provider for your wedding, to take advantage that it’s not marked up just because there are wedding bells in the horizon?
