Walking down the aisle.

by Jersey Bloggette on February 25, 2010

Ever since we decided to have our wedding in Jamaica, I’ve had it in my head that I somehow wanted to incorporate the song “Oh Happy Day” and possibly arrange for a choir of locals to sing it was we walk down the aisle after the ceremony.

Have you ever seen license to wed? I may or may not be jacking the idea from them (and Sister Act, but a choir of wildly talented high schoolers is hard to find on such a small island).

Skip to about 2:35 to fully understand what i’m talking about here.

But, um. Do you have any ideaaaaaa how much it costs to hire an entire choir?  It’s not cheap.  Trust me.  I’ve made the necessary phone calls.   I’ve asked around.  I’ve begged.  It costs as much as my actual wedding.  So.  Back to the drawing board.

While I may not have the song we walk down after the ceremony all decided, we have decided that the bridesmaids and I will walk down the aisle to an acoustic guitar playing “Here Comes the Sun” by George Harrison of the Beatles.

I seriously can not think of a more beautiful song.  Take away the words and just listen to that adorable little guitar melody. I’m smitten.  I thought about maybe switching it up and having that play for the bridesmaids and then something a little more “traditional” for my walk down the aisle, but honestly?  I’m not traditional.  Our wedding isn’t traditional, why  not have some fun with it?

I’m thinking of blasting “We are the Champions” by Queen as we walk down after the ceremony, or something equally ridiculous.
What are you planning to walk down the aisle to?  If you’re already married, did you stick with the traditional or did you make it personal?

We had a three-people gospel choir at our wedding (in a small church in Germany) and they sang “Oh happy Day” and “When you say nothing at all”. It was beautiful!

My friend used Here Comes to Sun in her wedding or I would be using it too!

We’re having a string quartet play contemporary songs (Vitamin String Quartet Style). I’m debating on walking down to U2’s All I Want is You, or Maybe I’m Amazed by Paul McCartney. At first I wanted U2 and now I’m leaning towards Paul.

Oh man, I have not even starting thinking about this…

Love what you’ve picked though.

I love your music choices :) I love acoustic anything!!! I have yet to even think about those things (ok maybe a little). I’m trying to figure out how I can get a Thrice/Dustin Kensrue song into my wedding without it sounding totally unfitting. LOL!!! I haz no life. Although he did write a good one for his wife (solo song)…I love it.
